Lint Upon Tweed

It's never too late to be what you might have been. George Eliot

I counted the apples…

I counted the apples that sat on the wall.
I counted the apples; I counted them all.
I counted the ones with the worms and the knots.
I counted the ones with the darkened brown spots.

I counted the the apples both red and some green.
I counted the apples that had a nice sheen.
And once I had counted the apples on the wall.
I took them down, one by one, and ate them all.
